Team 1675 has arrived in Indianapolis. The bus ride was long with stops to repair the pneumatics system on the bus. Initially it was a small leak in the drivers air ride seat, which was fixed with a simple duct tape patch. During a food stop the problem was found to be much worse then initially thought. The three teams on the bus 93, 2194 and 1675 joined forces to repair the bus permanently. You put a problem in front of some FIRST kids and they will find a way to fix it. Thirty minuets and a few kit parts later the bus was fixed and we where off on our way. Arriving at the hotel at 10:45 Team 1675 got right to work on everything need for the upcoming competition in the morning. Work on Vex robots and posters for Team 1675’s Midwest Vex Programs(MVP)/ Milwaukee Mentor Vex Challenge (MMVC) Demo Taking place all day Friday and all morning Saturday at IRI in the Pits area. Looking at a possible all night Team 1675 will be ready to go for Competition in the morning.

Team 1675 is going to the Indiana Robotics Invitational this year.
The Event starts Friday July 18th and Ends Saturday July 19th.
Information can be found on the IRI Website
Updates will be posted throughout the Competition via this site.

IRI Championship Trophy
A little recap of what went down In Chicago.
Early on, the Ultimate Protection Squad realized that the lift was not going to be functional at all this regional with the manipulator attached. Abandoning the manipulator and lift temporarily Team 1675 went into a defensive mode. With our only functioning component being the drive, we stuck to what we knew. Throughout the qualifying matches U.P.S. “D-ed Up” on almost every powerhouse there, wreaking havoc on them all. With this being extremely effective, and with the help of some outstanding alliance partners, U.P.S. rose through the ranks. At the end of qualifying matches Team 1675 was ranked 6th overall. U.P.S. ended up picking 1038 and 1982 as alliance partners. In the first elimination match there where problems with the terminal block and U.P.S. was forced to sit that match out. The issue was resolved and Team 1675’s Mecanum defense was back up and running. With some driver error and a couple slick moves, U.P.S. could not shut down 1114 and ended up losing that match also. This was not the end of the day for U.P.S. though. Team 1675 was awarded the Team Spirit Award. All in all, the regional was a complete success. With a less the 50% working robot, U.P.S. was ranked 6th. Going into their next regional with one under their belt, U.P.S. is looking to show everyone the true potential of their robot.
Until then we can study what we have done, recognize our mistakes, and improve upon our implementation.

As of day one of competition at the Midwest Regional, U.P.S is seated 1o with a record of 5 and 3. We have a very promising first two matchs the morning of saturday.
The robot is not working to fully designed intentions. We have everyhting working as a sub-assembly, we need time to integrate it as a whole.
2008 Midwest videos have been moved here.
Good luck to all teams at Midwest!
Wow this week was insane. First off I would like to congratulate everyone on a job well done. When it was time to get to things done Team 1675 really pulled it together.
Early in the week the robot really started to take shape but the majority of the work seemed to be done a little late.
With the need for new pneumatic cylinders 2 days before ship a tech mentor to the time to drive out to Bimba’s facilities in Hartford to get us the cylinders we needed. Thank you so much Mr. Spoerk for that.
With the manipulator complete came time to do final assemblies. With no programmers present to notify us that the lift was running at half power everyone got a big scare when the lift failed to lift the weight of that ball. After replacing the dead battery with a charged one the lift worked great. Even at half speed we get full extension in 6 seconds or less.
All seemed well until about 4:00pm Monday when we weight the robot and discovered we where close to 8 pounds over weight. Here we go again, with an Electronics board redo, speed holing the manipulator and turning down every exposed thread on the chassis bolts we either made weight or are super close. Yes drills will be brought to the Midwest Regional just incase.
The robots all crated up and on its way to Chicago. Although UPS is a Midwestern team you wouldn’t know it by looking at the 2008 “Overdrive” Robot.
All in all were sitting pretty good. This is the most complete Team 1675 has shipped yet and looks to prove to be quite a competitor.
Good luck to all the Teams and we’ll see ya in Atlanta!

It’s crunch time!
Team 1675 is doing well, and we have reached the don’t turn back point of the build season.
Lift- The three stages of the lift have been anodized black, gold, and brown, by Midwestern Anodizing. The lift has been mounted to the robot and is being put together this week.
Manipulator- All arm sections have been made/ordered and welded. Parts need to be joined and tested after being put on the robot.
Chairmans- The first edit was completed. There will be a meeting all day Friday to continue editing, as well as working on the presentation.
Media- The team has recieved responce from TMJ4 and we plan on setting up interview with them.
Electrical- Electronics board is completed, mounted, and wired. The team is just waiting to complete pneumatic and sensor controls.
Programming- All the code for the robot has been writtenC but need to tweak. Every other code has been written and has to be tested out on the robot.
Well since this is a little late it will be week 4 plus a little. (two days) So much headway was made this week. With 2 weeks of build to go the Robot is really taking shape. Stay tuned because before you know it UPS will be hurdling like mad.
Mecanum code is on the verge of completion.
Chassis is complete with lift mounts welded.
Encoders and all chain drive parts assembled and mounted.
Wheels and removable chassis rails completed and mounted.
Electronics box is waiting for brackets.
Lift was sent for anodizing.
Last but not least the new and improved UPS Duck is at stage 2 of completion.
Week 3 went great. Team 1675 has got a lot done and we are on our way to having a great robot this year. With build season reaching the half way point it’s time to kick it into “Overdrive.” With the determination to meet our deadlines the Team buckled down and got a lot accomplished this week.
*Prototype/Programming chassis finished.
*All Milling finished.
*Most lift parts done.
*Chassis welded.
*Manipulator started.
That’s it for this week. Week 4 looks to be the most productive week so stay tuned for coming developments.
